Background and Career Development
Anthony academic career began at Yale University. There, he pursued a bachelor’s and master’s degree in mathematics. He would later switch to Law. Tony graduated with a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School. After graduation, he landed an opportunity with Baker & McKenzie Law firm. At the organization, Tony was responsible for handling cases on arbitration, general corporate law, and taxation. In 1986, he became managing partner at the firm’s New York office. He worked in that capacity until 1991 when he resigned.
In the same year, Tony moved to Nabors Industries and was elected to the board of directors and the executive committee. Additionally, he served the company in the capacity of president and COO from1991 to 2011. In 2003, he became the deputy chairman of the enterprise. It was not until 2011 when he was named the president and CEO of Nabors Industries. One year later, the board of directors and the executive committee elected him as their chairman. In 2013, Anthony earned a total of $68.2 million including bonuses making him the top paid CEO of the year.
Nabors Industries is a company that specializes in oil and gas drilling. It’s among the biggest contractors in the energy sector. Nabors owns the world largest inland drilling rig fleet. Additionally, it provides offshore drilling fleet in the United States. They have invested in the production of drilling technology, instrumentation, software, and perfected drilling operations. Part of the company’s success is attributed to its skilled workforce that continues to set new industry standards.
Philanthropy is not among the values commonly associated with executives in the oil industry. Contrary to what people think, many of the executives from the big oil corporations are widely involved in philanthropy. Anthony has always contributed towards the development of the society. His generosity amplified after the birth of his daughter. Tony funds several scientific research aimed at developing the medical community. Together with his wife, they donated $ 5 million and pledged another $2 million towards medical research. Watching her daughter eat is one of the blessings that amplifies his charitable cause. Tony and his wife Cynthia have committed millions to Texas Children’s Hospital. Most of the donation go towards addressing neurological issues in children.
